The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc on Tuesday said Hizbullah’s leadership “has put itself in the circle of accusation by protecting the suspects” indicted by the U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon in the murder case of former premier Rafik Hariri.

In a statement issued after its weekly meeting at the Center House, the bloc slammed what it called Hizbullah’s “arrogant approach.”

Hizbullah on Monday hailed the "huge victory" of rebels who took control of most of the Libyan capital in their fight against Moammar Gadhafi's rule.

"Hizbullah congratulates the Libyan people and their revolutionaries for this huge victory against the tyrant (Gadhafi) after a long struggle and great sacrifice," Hizbullah said in a statement.

Hizbullah has tasked a technical team with drafting a report that challenges the international tribunal’s indictment and the circumstantial evidence of telecommunications data that implicated four of the party’s members in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s murder, a Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP said.

The lawmaker told As Safir daily published Saturday that Hizbullah would hold a press conference after drafting the report to present its findings to the public opinion and unveil new facts about Israeli manipulation of telecom data.

The United States retained Iran and its ally Syria as well as Sudan and Cuba on a list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism Thursday, after blacklisting the countries the previous year.

In an annual report, the State Department said "Iran remained the most active state sponsor of terrorism in 2010," citing "financial, material and logistic support" for militant groups in the Middle East and Central Asia.

Canada's security service identified possible Hizbullah reprisals over Hariri murder indictments as a national security threat, said a report Thursday.

A classified document cited by the Montreal French-language daily La Presse, entitled "Special Tribunal for Lebanon: does Hizbullah have recourse for violence in 2011?" outlines the concerns of Canada's Integrated Threat Assessment Center.

Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday said the Special Tribunal for Lebanon lacked sufficient evidence to implicate members of his group in the 2005 assassination of ex-premier Rafik Hariri.

"What the tribunal published confirms what we have been saying for months, that the investigation is neither transparent nor scientific," said Nasrallah in a nationally televised speech broadcast hours after the Netherlands-based court unsealed its indictment.

Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani urged on Wednesday the Lebanese to put an end to the “rhetoric of hate” and statements of incitement that would serve to create tensions between them.

He said after meeting with a Hizbullah delegation: “It is necessary for all sides to commit to objective rhetoric that would ease the people’s fears.”

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri called on Wednesday Hizbullah to sever ties with the suspects in the assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri, urging it to take “an historic stand” to cooperate with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

He said in a statement: “Hizbullah and its chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah should put an end to the policy of evading the STL, cooperate with the tribunal, and hand over the suspects in order to ensure the establishment of a fair trial.”

Al-Mustaqbal movement stressed on Wednesday it will not remain silent over any rhetoric that affects it, noting that Hizbullah deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem’s accusations don’t serve soothing the political and sectarian tension in Lebanon.

High-ranking sources in al-Mustaqbal told As Safir newspaper that Qassem’s stance is probably to express the tension that the party is going through after the release of the international tribunal’s indictment.

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel stressed that Hizbullah was not involved in the bombing that shook Antelias last week and slammed the opposition for criticizing his statements on the blast.

“Hizbullah is innocent and has nothing to do with the bombing,” Charbel told al-Liwaa daily in remarks published Wednesday.
