The United Nations condemned a new round of fighting between rival militias around Tripoli international airport, saying the clashes were undermining Libya's political process.

Since mid-July, Libya has been rocked by fierce and deadly fighting between militias that has prompted an exodus of foreign nationals from the oil-rich North African country.

A building was evacuated in the northern city of Tripoli overnight after its residents fears that it may collapse, reported the National News Agency on Sunday.

It said that the residents of the ten-storey al-Mohajerin building evacuated it at around 2:00 a.m. following claims that it may collapse.

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi on Saturday assured that moderation will stand strong in the northern city of Tripoli in the face of "troublemakers" and “dark rooms.”

Rifi discussed with a delegation of northern figures, religious men, heads of associations and mayors “the suspicious campaign that aims at harming Tripoli's national role and religious coexistence.”

The head of a Tripoli-based association was killed in Syrian troop shelling on al-Qalamun region in the neighboring country, media reports said on Tuesday.

"Head of al-Basha'er association Abou Mohammed al-Rifai and others were killed” in the latest battles in Syria, LBCI television said.

Firefighters succeeded on Saturday in controlling a large fire that had erupted at warehouses in the port of the northern city of Tripoli, reported the National News Agency.

It said that the fire broke out at warehouses of the Sanita company.

Former Tripoli MP Ahmed Hbous died on Thursday, more than a week after he was hospitalized for accidentally shooting himself, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Hbous, a Alawite, was handling his gun on July 30 when the bullet struck his face.

Lebanese authorities have intercepted telephone conversations between the leaders of militants who captured Arsal, a town in northeastern Lebanon, over the weekend and inmates at Roumieh prison, security officials said.

The officials, who were not identified, told As Safir daily published on Thursday that the phone calls also involved some Islamists in the northern city of Tripoli and the Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp near the southern city of Sidon.

A bomb detonated on Wednesday evening in the northern city of Tripoli, killing at least one person and wounding several others amid reports that the blast targeted an army patrol.

"A bomb was placed next to a Renault Rapid car in Mouharram region in southern Tripoli, 30 meters away from a military post in the city," the state-run National News Agency reported.

Clashes between the Lebanese army and gunmen left a child dead and several injured on Tuesday as roads in and around the northern city of Tripoli remained blocked, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The fighting renewed on Tuesday morning after a cautious calm following a night of gunbattles between the army and masked men.

The Libyan government said Sunday that at least 22 people were killed in clashes in Tripoli and warned of a "worsening humanitarian situation."

On the political front, a formal opening session of Libya's elected parliament scheduled for Monday hung in the balance, with Islamists insisting on a Tripoli venue and nationalists calling for it to be held in the eastern city of Tobruk.
