Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea criticized on Thursday the performance of the cabinet, calling on its members to resign and urging the formation of a technocrat government.

“Any member of this cabinet that respects himself should submit his resignation,” Geagea said during a press conference in Maarab.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea hoped on Thursday that a statement issued by the Syrian National Council would put Lebanese-Syrian relations on the right path and called for U.N. Security Council action if Lebanon comes under attack by Syria.

The Council, which is Syria’s leading opposition movement, said Wednesday that it wants to start a new chapter in the complex and often-troubled relationship with Lebanon.

A Mustaqbal Movement delegation on Thursday held talks with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea in Maarab on the general situations in the country, “especially the issue of the electoral law,” MP Ahmed Fatfat said after the meeting.

The delegation also comprised MPs Hadi Hbeish and Ziad al-Qaderi. The meeting was attended by LF bloc MPs Georges Adwan and Antoine Zahra.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea called on Hizbullah to negotiate with political parties in Lebanon to reach a “historical settlement” over its arms and all the controversial issues amid the developments in the region.

“It may seem a hard step but it’s courageous and necessary… The sooner the better because changes (in the region) will decrease the value of its (Hizbullah’s) weapons… Until it becomes a burden on it,” Geagea said in remarks published in As Safir newspaper on Thursday.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said on Tuesday that the ongoing Syrian crisis poses a threat to the neighboring countries and the region in general.

“The 10-month revolt in Syria, seems endless after President Bashar Assad’s speech… which threatens the neighboring countries and the region,” Geagea said in remarks published in An Nahar newspaper.

He said before reporters in Maarab: “Assad depicted a status quo that has nothing to do with the reality on the ground.”

A high-ranking Syrian security official condemned on Friday Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat’s recent calls to introduce “radical change” in the Syrian regime, saying that the Druze leader has once again allied himself with former Premier Saad Hariri and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea, reported the Kuwaiti Al-Seyassah newspaper on Friday.

The official said before a Lebanese Druze delegation: “When the time comes for settling scores, Jumblat will be dealt with in the same manner as Hariri and Geagea, as well as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffery Feltman.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said that his meeting with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri in Saudi Arabia tackled the latest developments locally and in the region.

“We discussed our position if the cabinet wasn’t able to survive, the (2013) parliamentary elections, and the collapse of the Syrian regime and its aftermath,” Geagea told the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Rai in an interview to be published on Thursday.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated on Saturday that the year 2012 will witness the fall of the Syrian regime.

He said during an LF dinner at Maarab: “The construction of the state in Lebanon will be possible after the collapse of the regime.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea returned to Beirut on Tuesday from his trip to Riyadh where he held talks with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and a number of high-ranking Saudi officials, said the LF media department in a statement.

Geagea and Hariri held lengthy and comprehensive talks on the situation in Lebanon and the region, it added.
