Leaders of armed fighters in the northern city of Tripoli turned themselves over to the military intelligence, the military institution announced in a communique.

"Ziad Allouki, Saad al-Masri, Khaled Qawwas and Omar Mheish, who have several arrest warrants against them, have turned themselves in," the Army Command said in a communique.

A brother of a top Bab al-Tabbaneh gunman was arrested Monday in the northern city of Tripoli.

“Army intelligence agents arrested Ziad Allouki's brother in Tripoli,” OTV reported.

First Military Examining Magistrate Judge Abu Ghida issued on Monday the indictment in double mosque bombings in the northern city of Tripoli last year, asking for the death penalty against 11 suspects, including four detainees.

Among them are Ahmed Hassan al-Gharib, Sheikh Hayyan Ramadan, Youssef Diab, Khodr Shdoud, Ahmed Merhi and Selman Assaad.

Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon said he would accompany Prime Minister Tammam Salam in his tour to lure back Arab tourists to Lebanon after a steady decline in their numbers in the past years.

The tourism “sector lately witnessed a sort of movement after Turkish and Egyptian and even Kuwaiti citizens visited Lebanon during the Easter holidays,” Pharaon said.

New arrest warrants were issued on Monday against Arab Democratic Party leader Ali Eid, his son Rifaat and others over their involvement in the 18th round of fighting in the northern city of Tripoli.

"First military examining magistrate Judge Nabil Wehbe issued a third in absentia arrest warrant against the party's political relations official Rifaat Eid,” MTV reported.

Military Examining Magistrate Judge Fadi Sawan issued on Monday two separate indictments calling for the death penalty against 32 suspects involved in the gunbattles in the northern city of Tripoli.

In the first batch 18 people, including Hussein Ahmed, who is in custody, were accused of forming an armed group with the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities, igniting sectarian strife and killing security forces.

The Internal Security Forces stated on Sunday that a school headmaster in the northern city of Tripoli had died of natural causes after reports emerged that he was beaten up while trying to break up a fight at the school.

They said that the autopsy report determined that Farouq Kardofan died of natural causes and no signs of violence were found on his body.

Several soldiers were wounded on Saturday when a hand grenade was hurled in a Tripoli neighborhood, as troops continued raiding several neighborhoods in the northern city.

"A hand grenade was hurled at an army patrol during raids in Bab al-Tabbaneh (neighborhood in Tripoli),” a communique by the military institution said.

Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji stated on Thursday that the military institution's security plan in the northern city of Tripoli will carry on until the whole mission is accomplished, the state-run National News Agency reported.

During a tour to inspect the military troops in Tripoli, Qahwaji said “the security plan implemented in the city in assistance with the security apparatus, enhanced the people's confidence in the state and nation,” he said, assuring that the “army will continue to implement the plan until its completion.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that his country will support the Lebanese army's efforts to confront terrorism, considering that the presidential elections in Lebanon will unify the country.

“Russia will fortify its military cooperation with Lebanon and will beef up the defense capabilities of Lebanese Armed Forces,” Lavrov said in a joint press conference with his visiting Lebanese counterpart Jebran Bassil.
