The Kuwaiti defense minister has denied reports about plans to bolster U.S. troops in the Gulf emirate after their withdrawal from Iraq by year's end, local media reported on Monday.

"Not at all. We have (no plan) to relocate U.S. troops to Kuwait or increase their numbers," Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Sabah was cited as saying by al-Watan newspaper.

Kuwaiti opposition MPs said on Thursday they have decided to quiz the interior minister after two youth activists were questioned and harassed for remarks on their Twitter accounts.

"The (Islamic) Reform and Development Bloc has decided to grill the interior minister over the harassment of tweeters," spokesman MP Faisal al-Muslim told reporters.

Kuwait's opposition has requested a meeting with the country's ruler to press for the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammed al-Ahmed al-Sabah over alleged corruption, MPs said Sunday.

The decision came following a meeting by 19 opposition MPs in the 50-member parliament Saturday night to "study specific steps that would ensure changing the prime minister," MP Faisal al-Muslim said.

Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah on Tuesday urged MPs and the government to end their bitter feuding saying opposition protests have "exceeded all limits."

"I am pained by the suffering of our nation from the continuous disputes between parliament and the government," the emir said in a speech at the opening of a new parliamentary session.

The British embassy in Kuwait reopened its doors to the public Sunday following a temporary suspension of services in the wake of a heightened security threat, a mission spokeswoman said.

"The embassy has resumed all its public services," the spokeswoman told Agence France Presse. "(But) we still have increased security for precautionary measures."

The British embassy in the Gulf state of Kuwait has temporarily suspended services because of an increased threat toward the mission, a statement on the embassy website said Thursday.

"As of 19 October 2011, because of an increased threat toward the British embassy, we have temporarily suspended British embassy services," the statement said.

Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sabah, a senior member of the ruling family, has resigned, local media reported Tuesday, amid tensions over a graft scandal involving several MPs.

Citing "high ranking" sources, Al-Anbaa newspaper said Sheikh Mohammad, who has been foreign minister in the oil-rich Gulf state since 2003, "submitted his resignation on Monday and did not attend the cabinet meeting."

Kuwait's lower court on Thursday sentenced to death a member of the Gulf state's ruling family for killing his nephew, also a royal, a court statement said.

Sheikh Faisal Abdullah al-Sabah was convicted of shooting Sheikh Basil Salem al-Sabah to death at the latter's palace in June 2010, the statement said, apparently over a dispute on board membership in a sports club.

Kuwait's foreign minister told reporters Tuesday the Arab world's foreign ministers are to meet to discuss developments in Syria.

"There will be a meeting of Arab foreign ministers to study the events in Syria," Sheikh Mohammed al-Sabah told a news conference in Kuwait's capital, without specifying the date for the gathering.

The Gulf state of Kuwait announced Tuesday that it has recognized Kosovo as an independent country and has decided to establish diplomatic ties at ambassadorial level.

"Based on instructions by the emir, the state of Kuwait recognizes Kosovo and will exchange diplomatic representation at the level of ambassadors," an official statement said following a meeting by the council of ministers.
