U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly on Friday said “the United States calls on all parties to work together to insulate Lebanon from the effects of the violence in Syria resulting from the Assad regime’s brutal crackdown on the Syrian people.”

Speaking after a meeting with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea in Maarab, Connelly said she discussed with the LF leader their “deep concern over the destabilizing actions of Syria in Lebanon.” 

Head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea blasted on Monday Free Patriotic Movement Leader MP Michel Aoun's cancelled visit to Our Lady of Elige Church, considering it “unwise” and accusing Aoun of ignoring the historical symbolism the tombs represent.

In a conversation with media representatives in Maarab after meeting with al-Mustaqbal Movement MP Ahmad Fatfat in MP Antoine Zahra's presence, Geagea wished Aoun had arranged his visit after consulting the LF and the martyrs' parents.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated on Friday that the government proposal over the parliamentary electoral law and the one suggested by the MPs Georges Adwan, Sami Gemayel, and Butros Harb are the best current offers on the matter, saying that the Free Patriotic Movement has to choose one of them.

He said during a press conference: “The FPM however is more concerned with harming the interests of the Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat and the Mustaqbal Movement to take into consideration Christian concerns in the elections.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea revealed on Thursday that his party is expected to submit a proposal before the joint parliamentary committees concerning the new electoral law, reiterating that the postponement of the 2013 parliamentary elections is out of the question.

“We have been preparing a new electoral law to forward it (to parliament) with our allies,” Geagea said in comments published in al-Akhbar newspaper.

A judicial authority will prevent on Wednesday security agencies from obtaining the telecom data after it extended the deadline until the end of Pope Benedict XVl's three-day visit to Lebanon.

Sources in the authority told As Safir newspaper that giving the complete telecom data to security forces to track crimes violates the constitution and it can't resume.

Lebanese Force leader Samir Geagea considered on Monday that Hizbullah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah exploited the anti-Islam film for political aims calling for a spiritual summit in Bkirki to resolve the matter.

"Nasrallah is very smart and Hizbullah's strategic leadership knows how to benefit from the circumstances," Geagea said in an interview with MTV.

President Michel Suleiman is expected to tackle the national defense strategy at a national dialogue session on Thursday, media reports said.

Al-Joumhouria newspaper reported on Monday that Suleiman will discuss with Lebanese foes the matter after conferees at the last national dialogue session, held at Beiteddine palace on August 16, decided to postpone discussing it due to the absence of several members, in particular, Speaker Nabih Berri.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea noted on Sunday that Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Lebanon pleased Muslims and Christians.

He told LBCI television: “We hope Christians would unite over the Apostolic Exhortation.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said on Saturday that the visit of Pope Benedict XVl to Lebanon is a historical step amid the Arab Spring and the critical situation in Lebanon, the Middle East as he shared a “warm” handshake with Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi.

“The papal visit will spread an atmosphere of tranquility and give a boost to the Arab Spring,” Geagea told reporters at the Baabda Palace on the pontiff's second day of visit to Lebanon.

Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea noted on Thursday that major revolutions cause pain to all those involved, especially Christians because they are smaller in numbers than the rest of the population in the Arab world.

He said in an interview to the BBC: “The Arab Spring will however produce open-minded societies that will provide better development for the Christians.”
