President Michel Suleiman traveled on Monday to the Gulf Monarch Kuwait at the head of a delegation to attend the Arab League Summit as the situation in Lebanon is expected to top its agenda.

Syria has decided to close its embassies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia because they have refused to accept the accreditations of its envoys, diplomats posted in Damascus said on Wednesday.

"Syria's embassies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are to close because these countries have been refusing to accredit the diplomats sent by Damascus since the start of the crisis," one of the sources said.

Kuwait to Raise Oil Output Capacity to 3.4 mn bpd by 2015

Kuwait plans to raise its oil production capacity by 150,000 barrels per day to 3.4 million bpd by mid-2015, a top oil executive in the oil-rich Gulf state said Tuesday.

"(Kuwait's) current production capacity is 3.25 million bpd. We plan to add another 150,000 bpd by mid-2015," said Hashim Hashim, the chief executive officer of Kuwait Oil Company, which is responsible for exploration and production.

Kuwait Emir Undergoes 'Minor' Surgery

The emir of oil-rich Kuwait has undergone a "successful minor surgery" in the United States following medical tests, the royal court said Sunday.

Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah, who turns 85 in June, "will leave hospital after the usual convalescence period," the royal court said in a brief statement carried by KUNA state news agency.

Kuwait MP Proposes Trust Fund for Citizens from Birth

A Kuwaiti MP filed a bill Thursday to create a government-funded trust fund for every citizen from birth that would become an 18th birthday present of around $40,000 (29,200 euros).

Under MP Askar al-Enezi's proposal, the government of the oil-rich Gulf state would deposit 50 dinars ($177) each month into an account for each citizen from the time of birth.
