Report: Al-Mashnouq a 'Guest of Honor' at GCC Ministers Meeting

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq has been invited to the Gulf Cooperation Council's interior ministers' meeting scheduled to be held in Doha next week, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Al-Mashnouq will be the “guest of honor” in the meeting that would also be attended by five cabinet ministers from the GCC countries, the daily said.

The United States imposed sanctions Friday on two Islamic extremists it accuses of ties to al-Qaida and the al-Nusra Front, alleging they financed and acted on behalf of the terror groups.

Under a designation issued by the U.S. Treasury, any assets the men -- Saudi and Kuwaiti nationals -- hold under U.S. jurisdiction are frozen and Americans are "generally prohibited from doing business with them."

Kuwait Arrests Suspected Qaida Financier

A Kuwaiti, Hajjaj bin Fahd al-Ajmi, considered a financier of Al-Nusra Front, a Syrian rebel group linked to al-Qaida, was arrested Wednesday on his return from a visit to Qatar, activists said.

They said on Twitter that Ajmi, 26, was arrested at Kuwait airport.

Kuwait Opposition Says Revoking of Dissidents Citizenship Illegal

A Kuwaiti opposition group said Thursday the revoking of citizenship of government opponents and licenses of media outlets is "unconstitutional" and described it as an act of "political vengeance."

"These are purely acts of political vengeance which are not based on the constitution, the basics of the law and the norms of the society," said a statement issued by a group of former opposition parliamentarians.
