'Lonely Boy' Singer Andrew Gold Dies

U.S. singer-songwriter Andrew Gold, famous for 1970s hits "Lonely Boy" and "Thank You for Being a Friend," which was used as the theme music for the hit U.S. TV show "The Golden Girls," has died aged 59, his family said.

Gold, whose other songs included "Never Let Her Slip Away," was also a music producer, a respected session musician as well as a member of Linda Ronstadt's band.

Michael Jackson 'Thriller' Jacket to Be Auctioned

The iconic black and red jacket worn by Michael Jackson in his "Thriller" video is to go under the hammer at a two-day Music Icons Exhibition in Beverly Hills.

The jacket is among 600 items that will go on sale at Julien's Auction Gallery, including memorabilia from musicians such as The Beatles, Madonna and Lady Gaga, Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Justin Bieber on June 25 and 26.

International Film Festival Opens in Transylvania

The Transylvania International Film festival (TIFF), plans to screen 220 movies including 3D productions by German Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog and a whole section for horror movie buffs, organizers said.

The city of Cluj in the heart of Transylvania will present out of competition sections, including "No limit", dedicated to films that present "true challenges for audience and actors alike" and "Shadows", for horror and fantasy movies, they said.

Two bottles of the world's oldest champagne are expected to fetch record-breaking bids at an auction in Finland's autonomous island province of Aaland Friday, wine experts said.

Samantha Compono, spokeswoman for the specialty wine auctioneer Acker Merrall & Condit told Agence France Presse that the bids should exceed the previous record set in 2008, when a bottle of 1959 Dom Perignon sold for $40,000 (27,600 Euros).

Cirque Chief Gambles on 'Millionaires' Poker'

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte and the World Series of Poker announced plans Thursday for a special 2012 tournament that would require a record $1 million entry fee.

Eleven percent of the fee for the contest, which he described as a "very interesting game of millionaires," would be donated to Laliberte's anti-poverty nonprofit foundation One Drop.
