Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has said that Syrian President Bashar Assad has lost his legitimacy and the fall of his regime would deal a blow to Iran and Hizbullah.

In an interview with French daily Le Figaro over the weekend, Barak said: “If Assad falls, this would deal a severe blow to Iran and Hizbullah, a significant weakening of the Shiite arc.”

“The fact that Turkey has stopped supporting Assad is very significant,” he said.

Barak added that Assad could only remain in power for a period of six months. “He has reached the point of no return.”

Not that I care, but I predict that Assad will outlive Barak in power.

@ asaf, it seems you missed my point, so I am going to spell it out for you and other slow people: Barak is one of the pillars in Israeli politics and also a dinosaur (he has been on the scene since ever). So even if he is not a minister in the next government, he will be in the following one. He will be in politics until he dies (or goes into a coma LOL) . So my point was that contrary to the wishes of the West and Israel, contrary to the prediction of Barak who is setting time limits, Assad will be staying and outliving all of them.
