A Lebanese official told AFP that Lebanon would take part in planned talks with Israel next week in Rome, after Beirut had previously conditioned participation on Israel withdrawing from certain areas it occupies in the south.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that "Lebanon will participate" without offering further details, as a U.S. military delegation visited the country to discuss implementing a framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel.

Still more evidence that the Republic of Lebanon, being led by President Aoun, is comfortably achieving in the here and now what others have only been capable of promising for a glorious promised outcome in an indefinite future and at a cost that has been and most suredly would have been enormously higher and paid for with Lebanese blood, poverty, and generational squalor.

Strife must be avoided by arresting Hezbollah's leaders and elected officials that continue to press that alternatively dark and unproductive promise for what Lebanon should be. The should be tried for sedition and treason.

Hezbollah's activities outside its duly elected legislative representation should be outlawed everywhere in Lebanon. Lebanese will lose nothing, yet gain much by doing so.
