Aoun urges US and France to act after Israeli strike on Dahieh

President Joseph Aoun condemned the Israeli airstrike that targeted a hangar in Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday afternoon, urging the U.S. and France to take action.

"The United States and France, as guarantors of the cessation of hostilities agreement, must assume their responsibilities and compel Israel to immediately cease its attacks," Aoun said in a statement.

He warned that "Israel's continued undermining of stability will exacerbate tensions and expose the region to real threats that jeopardize its security and stability."

It was the third Israeli airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs since the November ceasefire took effect.

Israeli officials claimed that the targeted hangar contained Hezbollah weapons.

At the same time he should urge the US and France also to act after the Hizballah refusal to abide by Resolution 1701 and the current cease-fire and hand over their arms.

The US and France would then have to force Aoun to have Hezbollah give up their weapons.
