Hariri on Democracy Day: Arms Greatest Threat to Democracy

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri voiced on Thursday his support for the Lebanese people and their ability to defend Lebanon’s democratic system against all attempts to target it.

He said in a statement on the occasion of International Democracy Day: “We are voicing a concern over democracy today because of the threat of arms, which are democracy’s greatest enemy.”

“It’s unfortunate that the Arab movements towards freedom are coinciding with attempts to harm Lebanon’s democratic system,” he noted.

He remarked that Democracy Day holds great significance this year because of the revolts that have taken place in the Arab world, hoping the peoples of Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya would succeed in defending the democracy they strived so hard to achieve.

On the developments in Syria, he said: “The Syrian people represent Arab dignity and they have set an example for peoples that are struggling for freedom.”

“We hope that they would succeed in their mission and overcome the security regime,” stated the former premier.

“Our support for the Arab people stems from Lebanon’s historic commitment to the issues of freedom, democracy, and human rights,” he continued.

@ Assole Australia

Lebanon is Harriri's Country whether you like it or not. I wish you would criticize something the man said. I read over and over again his statements in the article and could not possibly see anything that even Nassrallah would mind. However, you seem to find something completely irrelevant just to criticize. I agree with some of the comments..... if you disagree with what Harriiri said in this article why do you "claim" you live in Australia?? Go live in Syria, Iran or North Korea or better Dahiye in Beirut suburbs where i am sure you would fit right in.....

Arms greatest threat to democracy, but only after the imbecile loses power and gets the boot of his life democratically. Did anyone call him cheikh Imbecile? He is as much a cheikh as the fart Geagea is a doctor. PEOPLE!!!

This is what teh Hezz want. Wiliat al-Fakih forced on everoyone in Lebanon. They don't care about democracy. This is why this cancer needs to be eliminated politically. First ASSad must go.

I could be wrong, but perhaps the idiot is talking about the mercenaries who are hired guns of the Bahraini Criminal Family, supported by the criminal France and the US, who are crushing the peaceful democratic movement in Bahrain. BUT THEN I COULD BE WRONG. Who knows what the imbecile talks about anymore? He really lost it, poor unqualified imbecile.

Canaanite, what has Saudi Arabia got to do with the west? Are you saying that Saudi Arabia is free and democratic western nation? You can't even compare Iran with Saudi Arabia when taking citizens rights and freedoms. Freedom of religion and women's rights are hundreds of years advanced compared to Saudi Arabia the barbarian, backward medieval kingdom.

Voyager, Saudi Arabia is Saadadine "Abu Abdul Aziz" Hariri's country whether you like it or not. He was born and raised there. He still lives there with his family. He only came to Lebanon after his father was martyred. I'm only pointing out the hyprocracy of his Syrian positions compared to bahrain and clearly pro Saudi Arabian which is the most oppressive nation in the world after afganistan.

Obviously the the foreign funded terrorists and their Iranian backers are threatened by Hariri. Look at all the Persian Propagandists on this article.
