Mustaqbal Accuses Hizbullah, Change and Reform Bloc of Hindering Presidential Polls

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc condemned on Tuesday the parliament's failure to elect a new president after the tenth elections session, holding Hizbullah and the Change and Reform bloc responsible for obstructing the polls.

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “Electing a new head of state should be a priority above all other political issues.”

Parliament failed to elect a president on Tuesday after a lack of quorum caused by the boycott of the Change and Reform and Hizbullah's Loyalty to the Resistance blocs over a consensual candidate.

The March 8 camp has been demanding that a consensual candidate be elected.

Head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun has repeatedly said that he would be willing to run in the polls if there was consensus over his nomination.

Addressing the recent clashes between the army and Islamist militants in the northeastern town of Arsal, the Mustaqbal bloc hailed the sacrifices of the army, saying that “its martyrs are the martyrs of the whole of Lebanon.”

It added: “We welcome the liberation of Arsal from the militants and lessons should be derived from the incident.”

It also lauded the Saudi grant to the Lebanese army, saying that the kingdom has long sought to bolster state institutions, while other powers have sought to support “non-state ones.”

Saudi Arabia announced last week the dedication of one billion dollars aimed at supporting the army in combating terrorism.

The Mustaqbal bloc also demanded the safe return of troops abducted by the gunmen in Arsal, saying that this should be a national priority.

The gunmen withdrew from the town last week, taking with them a number of troops.

The clashes in the northeastern town erupted when the army arrested on August 2 a prominent member of the al-Qaida-affiliated al-Nusra Front.

Several soldiers were killed and wounded in the clashes that ended on Thursday.

Mustaqbal Accuses Hizbullah, Change and Reform Bloc of Hindering Presidential Polls.

It is not an accusation, it is a FACT.

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 12 August 2014, 19:50

Then let them go to the Parliament and have an election!!!!

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 12 August 2014, 20:38

In a democracy, you go and elect and whoever wins, then be it. You do not hold the system hostage or as in this web site you rig the voting by having multiple accounts to give the impression that people agree with your side and disagree with your opponent. This should not be as a surprise as m8 acolytes have always been interested in winning no matter the method is.

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 12 August 2014, 21:12

Let us be frank, Aoun is afraid that there will be a deal and both m14 and Jumblat support another candidate. Aoun will only accept Aoun.

Flame, it is not only evident you are repeating the party propaganda line but sadly you appear to be believing it as well. What initiative are you hoping for? There have been several put forward. Feel free to take your pick. Besides m14's initiative is clear we have a candidate and will go to vote. Simple! What is aoun's initiative? Consensus on me or I don't attend. Very simple no? Aparentley not.

only +1?! switch off your auto-correct "we are those that know what are (is) the truth and we do have arguments they are never replying to (on)"

Thumb Bandoul 12 August 2014, 21:34

Ah gee, you just keep repeating and requesting what you know to be the impossible in this phase because it requires an amendment to the constitutions. You continue to float this not yet ripe solution because you cannot rationally explain your obstructionist behavior. Why not come out from behind your thumb. You are in charge and you have thwarted our free will with your guns! So conclusion as long as you have your boots on our necks you can do whatever you want so why the charade? Change the constitution and let your ex-defector become president and prove to us once and for all that you are the majority so we can shut up forever no?

Thumb Bandoul 12 August 2014, 23:04

lol di2 el mi mi. I accept nothing but the authority of the state and its institutions and the only ones against democratic processes are the gun toting Iranian mercenary terrorist organization that first crossed the border into a foreign country to protect Lebanese citizens, then it was to protect shrines and then it was to keep the cannibals from crossing into Lebanon and all without the authority of the Lebanese state. You failed at all your self appointed missions and you have lost the confidence of the Arab world and your leader is the enemy of all Sunnis. Good luck with that.

Roar you live in such denial. Aoun wants to be president, period. This has nothing to do with green lights from other countries. Aoun did not accept consensual candidates, and he only proposed a direct election because he wants all the Shia votes. Aoun is selfish, he is not the leader of Christians. If Aoun was truly being democratic, he'd say okay Geagea let's go head to head and see who wins. But he doesn't because he knows damn well Geagea will get more votes (not that I want Geagea to be elected).

Thumb nickjames 13 August 2014, 00:43

Then you say Geagea wouldn't get more votes. Then if that's the case let Aoun run against him. Aoun is scared he'll lose. That's why he's boycotting Parliament, even though Hezbollah is now somewhat supporting his candidacy publicly.

Thumb nickjames 13 August 2014, 00:46

If Aoun ran against Geagea and won, I'd shut up because he was elected by a majority. But until that day comes I'm gonna keep ridiculing this man.
