U.N. Says One Peacekeeper Killed in C. Africa Ambush

A U.N. peacekeeper from Pakistan was killed on Thursday in the Central African Republic during a flareup of violence engulfing the capital of Bangui after months of relative calm.

Another soldier was severely wounded during the ambush on a joint Pakistani-Bangladeshi convoy and seven others suffered slight injuries, U.N. officials said.

U.N. Security Council Condemns 'Heinous' Henning Murder

The U.N. Security Council has strongly condemned the "heinous and cowardly" murder of British hostage Alan Henning, shown in a video with an Islamic State fighter. 

In a unanimous statement issued late Friday, the 15-member council said the "continued acts of barbarism perpetrated by ISIL do not intimidate them, but rather stiffen their resolve" to counter the jihadists.

Palestinians Ask U.N. to End Israeli Occupation by 2016

The Palestinians are asking the U.N. Security Council to set November 2016 as the deadline for ending the Israeli occupation, according to a draft resolution obtained by Agence France-Presse on Wednesday. 

The draft, circulated to council members, follows Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' address last week to the U.N. General Assembly in which he called for a fast-track to statehood.

U.S. Says World Has Responsibility to Back Lebanon against Jihadists
