Turkey FM: Up to 700 Turkish Nationals in IS Ranks

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said up to 700 Turkish nationals have joined the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group, sounding the alarm over the risk of attacks inside Turkey if the extremists return home.

"There are around 500-700 Turkish citizens who have joined the ranks of IS," Cavusoglu was quoted as saying by Turkish media.

Paris Gunman 'Spent Three Days in Madrid'

French Islamist gunman Amedy Coulibaly spent three days in Madrid before last week's Paris attacks, with Spanish police now investigating whether he had a support cell there, a newspaper said Thursday.

He was in Madrid between December 30 and January 2 with another person who has not yet been identified, Barcelona-based daily newspaper La Vanguardia reported.

Turkish PM Compares Netanyahu to 'Paris Terrorists'

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Thursday accused his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu of committing "crimes against humanity" comparable to those of the Islamist gunmen behind the Paris attacks that left 17 dead.

Davutoglu's comments risk inflaming a new row in the increasingly tense bilateral relationship after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blasted Netanyahu for "daring" to attend the weekend's anti-terror solidarity march in Paris after the attacks.

Netanyahu Returns Fire Over Erdogan Jibe on Paris Rally

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday hit back at Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who blasted him this week for "daring" to attend an anti-terror solidarity march in Paris.

"I believe his shameful remarks must be repudiated by the international community, because the war against terror will only succeed if it's guided by moral clarity," Netanyahu's office quoted him as telling visiting leaders of the U.S. pro-Israel lobby AIPAC.

Turkey Bans Reports, Internet Posts of 'Islamist Arms Delivery'

Turkey on Wednesday imposed an all-out media blackout, including on Facebook and Twitter, prohibiting publication of reports claiming Turkish intelligence services delivered arms to Syrian Islamist rebels last year. 

The Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK) delivered a court ruling to Turkish newspapers, television, websites and social media networks, banning them from reporting the arms allegations.

Nearly 300,000 Irregular Migrants Entered EU Last Year

More than 276,000 irregular migrants entered the European Union last year, more than double in 2013, the bloc's commissioner for migration and home affairs, Dimitris Avramopoulos, said Tuesday.

"In 2014, more than 276,000 migrants arrived in the EU, representing an increase of 138 percent compared to the previous year," Avramopoulos told the European Parliament.

Charlie Hebdo Turkish Version to Counter 'Attack on Secularism'

West Must Act Against Attacks on Muslims Says Top Turkish cleric

Turkey's highest Islamic authority on Tuesday decried the lack of action by Western leaders against the "massacres" of Muslims, after many world leaders joined a mass rally to protest the jihadist attacks in Paris.

"On one hand 12 million people have been massacred over the past 10 years in the Muslim world, which has suffered greatly,"  Mehmet Gormez, the head of Turkey's Religious Affairs Directorate, said in a speech.

Turkey Arrests Two Police over Armenian Journalist Murder

Turkey on Tuesday arrested two police officers for failing to prevent the 2007 murder of an ethnic Armenian journalist, local media reported.

Ozkan Mumcu and Muhittin Zenit have been charged with "negligence" for failing to act on intelligence and prevent the murder of Hrant Dink and of failing to carry out an effective probe.

Turkey Detains Six Over Istanbul Suicide Bombing

Turkish police on Tuesday detained six people, including three foreigners, over last week's suicide bombing in the heart of Istanbul's tourist district, reports said. 

Six suspects were in court for  questioning by Turkish prosecutors over the deadly attack, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported.
