Several embassies have tightened travel warnings for Lebanon, advising their nationals to avoid parts of the country due to unrest in neighboring Syria and the kidnapping of a group of Estonians.

The British embassy now advises its nationals to avoid travel to Lebanon's eastern and southern borders with Syria following incursions by Syrian troops into the country.

A number of Lebanese citizens living in the North demanded the Lebanese and Arab governments Friday to withdraw their ambassadors from Damascus in a protest against the repression of demonstrations which had started in the Middle of last March.

According to National News Agency, a number of people from the North took part in a march in Tripoli “in solidarity with the Syrian people at an invitation from the Secular Gathering in Lebanon amidst strict security measures taken by the army and internal security forces.”

Sirte was rocked by deadly street fighting on Friday in what troops from the new regime said was the final assault on Moammar Gadhafi's besieged hometown, with orders that they take it "today."

Medics said at least four regime fighters had been killed and dozens more wounded from fighting on the west side of the city, and an Agence France Presse correspondent said ambulances continued to arrive in a steady stream at a nearby field hospital.

A man claiming to be Moussa Ibrahim, spokesman for Moammar Gadhafi, denied on Saturday claims he had been captured by forces of the country's new regime outside of the deposed Libyan leader's hometown of Sirte.

"This information is a lie and does not reflect reality," the man said in a live telephone interview with Syrian-based Arrai television, which has become a conduit for declarations by Gadhafi and other elements of his former regime.

A woman and her two daughters were wounded Saturday near Al-Nasiri mosque in Tripoli’s Bab Al-Tebbaneh neighborhood due to a hand grenade explosion, the National News agency reported.

The Agency added that the security forces arrived at the scene and started investigating, adding that the wounded were taken to Al-Khairi hospital in Tripoli for medical treatment.

Libya's interim Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril said Thursday that he will not be a part of the new government, the formation of which has been postponed until the end of the country's conflict.

Asked at a news conference in Tripoli about the timetable for the government's announcement, Jibril said: "I hope that soon we will free Sirte and Bani Walid to begin negotiations on the formation of the transitional government, of which I will not be a part."

Fugitive Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi has told his supporters that he is still fighting on the ground and is ready to die a martyr, a loyalist website reported on Tuesday.

"Heroes have resisted and fallen as martyrs and we too are awaiting martyrdom," the website of the defunct Allibiya state television channel quoted Gadhafi as saying in a speech broadcast on local radio in Bani Walid, one of his last remaining bastions.

Italian oil giant ENI has resumed oil production in Libya more than six months after civil unrest brought oil and gas output in the country to a near standstill, the company said Monday.

A statement said that ENI had restarted production at the Abu Attifel oil field. Before the conflict that ousted leader Moammar Gadhafi, ENI was the top foreign oil producer in Libya, a former Italian colony.

Unknown assailants opened fire on Thursday at the Sweiqa police station in the northern city of Tripoli, resulting in material damage to the building.

The assailants attacked the building at 3:30 am using machine guns.

Philippine diplomats helped two Filipina maids slip out of the home of a relative of deposed Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi after the women asked for a "rescue", according to the foreign ministry.

The pair left the house of one of Gadhafi's nephews and were picked up by embassy staff who were in position in two vehicles, ministry spokesman Raul Hernandez said on Tuesday.
