Clashes after Sudan Farm Protester Dies

Sudanese police clashed for a second day on Saturday with citizens objecting to an agricultural development after one protester died from his injuries, a resident said.

The victim "died because of injuries as a result of clashes with police yesterday," said the resident of the Om Doum neighborhood along the Blue Nile River in east Khartoum. He asked not to be identified.

3,000 Rebels Surrender in South Sudan after Amnesty

Around 3,000 rebels in South Sudan surrendered Friday after a presidential amnesty, an official in Unity, an oil-producing state that borders Sudan, said.

Around 100 trucks crossed over the border from Sudan into South Sudan's Unity state on Friday, following a presidential decree granting amnesty to six rebel commanders and their forces on Thursday.

Report: Sudan Harboring Ugandan Warlord Kony

Sudan appears to be providing shelter to Joseph Kony, one of the world's most wanted warlords, according to a report released on Friday by the Washington-based Resolve group.

Kony is the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army, which is infamous for mutilating its victims and abducting children for use as fighters and sex slaves. It has waged an insurgency against the Ugandan government for over 25 years.

Sudan Jails 7 State Security Agents over Coup Plot

A special court in Sudan on Thursday jailed seven members of the powerful state security service for up to eight years over a coup attempt last year, the service said.

Their conviction follows the sentencing earlier this month of several army officers, who were jailed for the same plot but then walked free under a presidential amnesty.

U.N. Sees 'Positive Spirit' in Sudan-Rebel Talks

The top U.N. official in Sudan said on Thursday that Khartoum and rebels in South Kordofan have shown a "positive spirit" in opening direct talks towards ending a two-year war which has affected more than one million people.

Food, Water Reach War-Displaced in Sudan's Darfur

Food, water and medical aid has reached thousands of people displaced by fighting in southern Darfur in Sudan, peacekeepers said on Wednesday, after the U.N. chief expressed concern over restrictions on access.

Almost 80 tonnes of "critical humanitarian aid" will assist needy civilians in Labado and Muhagiriya, said the African Union-U.N. peacekeeping mission (UNAMID) which delivered the supplies from United Nations agencies.

ICC War Crimes Suspect Killed in Darfur

Darfur rebel leader Saleh Jerbo, charged with war crimes by the International Criminal Court, has been killed in the western Sudanese region, his defense team said.

"The defense of Mr. Saleh Mohammed Jerbo Jamus hereby notifies the trial chamber, with great sadness... that Mr Jerbo died in North Darfur, Sudan on the afternoon of 19 April 2013, and was buried the same day," said an ICC document published late Tuesday.

U.N. Troops Awaited to Confirm Sudan-S. Sudan Pullout

Verification of a Sudan and South Sudan pullout from a border buffer zone has to await the arrival of more than 1,000 United Nations peacekeepers, a U.N. commander said in documents released Tuesday.

Sudan, Rebels in New Southern Darfur Clash

Sudanese forces and rebels have clashed in southern Darfur, both sides said on Tuesday, the latest unrest in a region where the government has warned about insecurity.

Both the army and the Sudan Liberation Army's Minni Minnawi faction claimed to have inflicted heavy losses on each other in Monday's battle at Marla, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of the country's second city, Nyala.
