A Saudi soldier and a civilian have been killed in cross-border shelling from rebel-controlled northern Yemen, authorities said late Saturday.

A Saudi patrol was hit on Saturday morning in the southwestern region of Assir, killing the soldier, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency SPA.

Passengers on a flight to Riyadh from Madrid were evacuated Thursday after a note threatening a bomb attack was found inside the plane in what was later confirmed as a hoax.

The Saudi Arabian Airlines flight had been due to take off in the mid-morning from Madrid but the captain requested an evacuation after a note reading "11:30 bomb" was discovered pinned to the interior. The plane was taken to an isolated part of the airport for inspection.

A Saudi who used Twitter to call for the release of prisoners convicted of "terrorism" and security offenses has been jailed for 10 years, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The Okaz daily said the accused, who was not named, opened several Twitter accounts.

Saudi authorities said Monday that an Egyptian man was the second assailant in the weekend suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque which killed four people and wounded 36 others.

The interior ministry identified the man who was overpowered by worshipers during Friday's attack as Talha Hisham Mohammed Abdo.

Saudi authorities on Monday executed a national for murdering a compatriot, bringing to 56 the number of convicts put to death in the kingdom this year.

Ahmed al-Harbi was found guilty of stabbing and shooting Fahed al-Balawi in a dispute, the interior ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency SPA.

A suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Shiite-populated eastern Saudi Arabia during Friday prayers, killing four people before worshipers disarmed and tied up his accomplice who had fired on them.

The state Al-Ekhbariya news channel quoted an interior ministry spokesman as saying four people died and 18 were wounded.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry reassured Saudi Arabia on Sunday of the "solid relationship" between both countries, even after the lifting of sanctions on the kingdom's regional rival Iran.

"We have as solid a relationship, as clear an alliance, and as strong a friendship with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia as we've ever had," Kerry said before departing Riyadh for Laos at the end of a 24-hour visit.

A global Muslim body on Thursday condemned the attacks on Saudi missions in Iran earlier this month and denounced Tehran's regional "interference."

Foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in a statement, said it "condemns the aggressions against the missions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and Mashhad."

French President Francois Hollande lamented on Thursday the ongoing vacuum in the presidency, warning that it could become “dangerous.”

He hoped that “Iran and Saudi Arabia would contribute in ending the vacuum.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Wednesday there could be no military solution to the devastating war in Syria and said further confrontation with Saudi Arabia was in no one's interest.

"There is no military solution to the (Syrian) crisis. We need a political solution," Zarif told an audience at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss resort of Davos.
