Phalange party official Sami Gemayel denied that he was being named to fill a cabinet seat and hinted that the March 14 alliance would participate in the government only if it gets veto power.

While criticizing “the huge concessions made by the March 14 forces,” Gemayel said: “These concessions and the results of negotiations on the international tribunal led us to where we stand today.”

The movement of U.S. warships in the Mediterranean sea has been disrupting Lebanon’s internet services in the past three weeks, An Nahar daily reported Saturday.

Druze leader Walid Jumblat assured March 14 forces that Najib Miqati's would-be government will not and cannot stop the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

"Miqati's government is not willing to terminate the international tribunal because no one, except for the Security Council, can terminate it," Jumblat said in remarks published Wednesday by Al-Akhbar newspaper.

Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati denied that he was trying to win allies from among the March 14 forces, saying he was only seeking with all possible means to form a national unity cabinet.

Miqati told An Nahar daily in remarks published Wednesday that his meetings with Phalange and Lebanese Forces leaders Amin Gemayel and Samir Geagea in addition to talks with Caretaker Minister Butros Harb were only aimed at “forming a cabinet that includes everybody.”

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc on Tuesday noted that the list of demands it had submitted to Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati last week deals with "a number of political, national and ethical constants."

In a statement issued after its weekly meeting under ex-PM Fouad Saniora, the bloc said it was waiting for a "clear stance" by the PM-designate.

Premier-designate Najib Miqati has stressed that he doesn’t “follow anyone’s agenda” even if Hizbullah and its allies brought him to power.

“I have a friendship with Hizbullah and I also have contacts outside of Lebanon, but it doesn’t mean I follow anyone’s agenda,” Miqati, 55, said in an interview with Bloomberg at his Beirut office.

Serious consultations are underway between Premier-designate Najib Miqati and the two main Christian parties in the March 14 forces -- the Phalange and the Lebanese Forces -- to mull their participation in the new cabinet.

High-ranking Phalange party officials told An Nahar daily in remarks published Tuesday that dialogue between the two sides was “serious” and that contacts started between Miqati and Phalange leader Amin Gemayel through telephone conversations and several meetings.

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat accused former Premier Fouad Saniora of hoping for the failure of Saad Hariri as prime minister so that he returns to the premiership.

In an interview with the Qatari al-Watan daily on Monday, Jumblat said: “If I was Sheikh Saad I would have participated in Najib Miqati’s government without hesitation.”

Speaker Nabih Berri snapped back at former Premier Saad Hariri on Monday rejecting accusations that Syria and Iran have brought down his government.

Hariri said Saturday that "enormous" pressure from outside Lebanon was to blame for the collapse of his cabinet earlier this month.
