Ukraine's opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko said Sunday that she would not seek the post of prime minister in a new coalition government formed following the ouster of president Viktor Yanukovych.
"Information that I was being considered for the post of prime minister of Ukraine came as a surprise," the former premier said in a statement released by her Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party.

Russia should not intervene in the Ukraine crisis, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague said Sunday, insisting it would not be in Moscow's interests to weigh in.
Speaking after Ukraine's parliament ousted President Viktor Yanukoych following a bloody end to three months of protests, Hague said there was a "moment of opportunity" for Ukraine but there were still "many dangers" ahead.

Russia's foreign ministry on Saturday warned that "extremists" in Ukraine posed a threat to the country's sovereignty, after embattled President Viktor Yanukovych accused the emboldened opposition of staging a "coup".
"The opposition has not only failed to meet a single one of its obligations, but is also pushing new demands, submitting itself to armed extremists and looters whose actions pose a direct threat to the sovereignty and constitutional order of Ukraine," the ministry said in a statement.

Two hundred people were arrested Friday near a Moscow court as it convicted eight defendants of mass riots and attacking police at a protest against President Vladimir Putin, a case widely seen as a crackdown on dissent.
The eight defendants were found guilty of participating in mass riots and hitting policemen at an opposition rally the day before Putin returned to the Kremlin for a third term in 2012.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Barack Obama joined with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday to call for an urgent political solution to the deadly crisis gripping Ukraine.
"The chancellor and the presidents have reached an agreement to call for a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine as quickly as possible and for an end to the bloodbath," the German government said in a statement released after phone calls between the Western leaders and Putin, who have been at odds over Ukraine's future.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited Baghdad on Thursday for talks with senior Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, that focused on weapons sales and Syria.

More than 60 protesters died from gunshot wounds on Thursday in fresh clashes between thousands of demonstrators and heavily-armed riot police in the heart of Kiev, a medic who works with the opposition said.
"More than 60 protesters died today. They all have gunshot wounds," the EuroMiadan Medical Center coordinator Svyatoslav Khanenko told Agence France Presse.
