The March 8 forces will begin tackling the funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon probing the assassination of ex-Prime Minister Rafik Hariri by the beginning of October, An Nahar newspaper reported on Friday.

A ministerial source told the daily that any breakthrough in the issue of the STL would have to be through the cabinet.

March 14 led-opposition leaders have held a meeting at Center House to discuss the local situation and to coordinate their stances concerning the upcoming stage, An Nahar newspaper reported on Thursday.

The meeting was held on Tuesday in the presence of Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel, head of the Mustaqbal bloc former Prime Minister Fouad Saniora, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and MPs Butros Harb and Marwan Hmadah and March 14 General Secretariat Coordinator Fares Soaid, the daily said.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon, probing the assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri, reiterated its confidence that the Lebanese cabinet is committed to its cooperation with the tribunal to carry out the implementation of the arrest warrants against the four suspects who are members of Hizbullah.

“The Lebanese authorities had taken reasonable measures” to implement the arrest warrants, an official source at the STL told the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Friday.

A Hizbullah member escaped to Israel last June after the Shiite party’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah unveiled that the group had captured three spies among its members, two of whom were allegedly recruited by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, An Nahar daily reported Friday.

Nasrallah said at the time that CIA members at the U.S. embassy had recruited at least two Hizbullah members and the group was investigating whether the intelligence agency or another foreign agency recruited a third.

The funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon probing the assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri will be discussed away from the media spotlight, An Nahar newspaper reported on Monday.

“The issue is being discussed away from the media especially between the Prime Minister (Najib Miqati) and Hizbullah,” informed sources told the daily.

Special Tribunal for Lebanon Persecutor Daniel Bellemare might issue an indictment against parties throwing accusations at the STL, the court’s spokesman Marten Youssef said.

Youssef told al-Mustaqbal daily published Saturday that judicial authorities at the tribunal are hearing the accusations made against the court but this does not affect the work procedure of any of the involved judges.

The March 14-led opposition has denied that it is seeking to propose a draft law in parliament to fund the Special Tribunal for Lebanon if the government fails to take such an action.

MPs Marwan Hamadeh and George Adwan and March 14 general-secretariat coordinator Fares Soaid told An Nahar daily on Friday that the opposition is not mulling to propose a draft law.

The March 14-led opposition is seeking to propose a draft law on funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon probing the assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri to find a solution to the $32 million Lebanon is obligated to pay for the international court, An Nahar newspaper reported on Thursday.

“They (March 14 camp) are discussing the possibility of presenting a draft law to the parliament to fund the STL, like (Free Patriotic Movement leader) MP Michel Aoun did in the issue of the electricity project,” the daily said.

Prime Minister Najib Miqati agreed with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon probing the assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri, al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Wednesday.

“The STL will be funded under any circumstance,” sources close to Jumblat told the daily.

Prime Minister Najib Miqati pledged on Sunday to renew commitment to all the international resolution during his upcoming visit to New York City to attend a U.N. Security Council session on the Middle East, stressing that the cabinet cannot be selective in implementing the resolutions.

“The Special Tribunal for Lebanon exists… We can’t implement only the resolutions that we favor and rule out the others,” Miqati told An Nahar newspaper.
