Police in Spain were on Monday looking for a fare dodger who bit off part of the ear of a train conductor who asked to see his ticket.

The attack happened on a suburban commuter train in Barcelona in northeastern Spain on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

Taiwan Boy Accidentally Damages $1.5 mn Italian Painting

A 12-year-old boy accidentally punched a hole through a $1.5 million centuries-old Italian oil painting when he tripped and fell into the piece during an exhibition in Taiwan.  

The painting, entitled "Flowers" by Italian artist Paolo Porpora, dates back to the 1600s and is part of a collection of 55 artworks on show in the country's capital.

New Mexicans Say they Dished out World's Longest Tamale

A group of people in New Mexico say they cooked the world's longest tamale Saturday morning.

Luis Hernandez of the ABQ West Chamber of Commerce says that a team of more than 30 chefs at Viva II, a three-day celebration of the state's heritage, assembled a 116-foot. 7-inch long tamale at the Valencia County fairgrounds in Belen.

Polish Media Abuzz with Rumoured Discovery of Nazi 'Gold Train'

Local media are abuzz over the rumoured discovery of an armoured train car in southwestern Poland, which has revived old lore of trains full of gold and jewels stolen by the Nazis that vanished after World War II. 

"Has Hitler's gold train been located?" asked the leading daily Gazeta Wyborcza in a headline echoed by broadcaster TVP.info, tabloid Fakt and broadcaster TVN24 among other media.

Singapore Botches Ex-Leader's Name on Historic Currency Package

Singapore's central bank has apologised for misspelling the name of the city-state's first president on the packaging of a special currency issue marking the country's 50th year of independence.

The name of the late president Yusof Ishak was spelt "Yusok Ishak" on the cover folder containing the Sg$50 and Sg$10 commemorative notes, launched Thursday, much to the embarrassment of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
