Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil has marked 40 days since Israel’s killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah by publishing a eulogy and political statement in al-Akhbar newspaper.

The caretaker Cabinet on Wednesday approved granting the Defense Ministry a treasury loan to recruit 1,500 soldiers for the Lebanese Army.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati had announced at the Oct. 24 Paris conference that his government had decided to recruit more troops and could deploy 8,000 soldiers in the south as part of a plan to implement a ceasefire and U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701.

Lebanese state media reported a strike on an apartment in the Jiye coastal area south of Beirut on Tuesday, more than a month into the Israel-Hezbollah war.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Monday called on the “silent” international community to address “the Israeli enemy’s continued aggression against Lebanon and its crimes of killing and destruction.”

Mikati voiced his remarks in meetings with the ambassadors of the U.N. Security Council’s permanent members -- the U.S., the UK, France, Russia and China. He also met with the EU’s ambassador to Lebanon.

Lebanon's health ministry said one person was killed and 15 people were wounded Saturday in an Israeli strike on the Galerie Semaan area on the outskirts of Beirut's southern suburbs.

A 25-strong Israeli naval force made a landing on Batroun's shore at dawn Friday and abducted Hezbollah official Imad Fadel Amhaz from a chalet, media reports and security sources said on Saturday.

"Israeli Navy SEALs captured last night Imad Amhaz -- a senior member of Hezbollah's naval force -- in an operation in Northern Lebanon," an Israeli official told U.S. news portal Axios.

The meetings that U.S. envoys Amos Hochstein and Brett McGurk held Thursday in Israel regarding a ceasefire in Lebanon were “good” and “the gaps have narrowed,” a U.S. official told the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation.
