Free Patriotic Movement Chief MP Michel Aoun denied on Sunday media reports saying that he intends to carry out a foreign trip soon.

“It's absolutely false,” Aoun said via twitter.

Telecommunications Minister Burtos Harb lashed out on Sunday at Hizbullah and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun, accusing them of the presidential crisis.

“Hizbullah is contributing to the presidential deadlock, while the real reason behind the crisis is Michel Aoun,” Harb said in an interview with the Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa.

The Constitutional Council decided on Saturday not to look into the two vetoes submitted against the new rent law, saying that the legal text published in the Official Gazette “was not put into effect.”

"The vetoed law is the one published in the Official Gazette on May 8. But at the time of its publication, the law did not adhere to the stipulations of the last section of the Constitution's Article 57, and hence, it was not put into effect," the Constitutional Council explained.

Former Prime Minister and head of al-Mustaqbal Movement Saad Hariri telephoned Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Friday evening during a meeting with Health Minister Wael Abou Faour in the Moroccan city of Casablanca.

Both leaders agreed during the conversation to hold a meeting in the near future, a statement released by Hariri's media office said.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam expected that the ongoing cabinet dispute would reach a breakthrough before its next session, stressing on importance of safeguarding the local situation amid the turmoil in the region.

“I was keen during Thursday's cabinet session to fortify consensus over the mechanism” regulating the government’s work during the ongoing presidential vacuum, Salam said in comments published in As Safir newspaper on Friday.

The cabinet failed on Thursday to reach an agreement over the methodology it should adopt in conducting its affairs, raising fears of the emergence of paralysis in the government.

Information Minister Ramzi Jreij made the announcement after the session that was held at the Grand Serail and chaired by Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi urged on Wednesday the March 8 and 14 alliances to make “brave initiatives” to resolve the country's crises, saying the failure to elect a president is a violation of the Constitution.

At the start of the synod of Maronite bishops in Bkirki, al-Rahi prayed for the immediate election of a president.

Syrian President Bashar Assad has described Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun as an “honest man,” saying he would welcome his election as a president.

In an interview with al-Akhbar daily published on Wednesday, Assad said: “Aoun is an honorable and honest man who fought with dignity and reconciled with dignity.”

Speaker Nabih Berri has allegedly accused al-Mustaqbal movement of turning against a deal to attend a parliamentary session on the controversial wage hike, warning that lack of quorum puts the entire political system in danger.

According to several local dailies, Berri said this was “not the first time that the movement was revolting against a positive atmosphere or agreements” aimed at resolving certain crises.
