Germany Promises Additional Assistance over Refugee Crisis

German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Mueller vowed on Thursday to increase assistance to Lebanon to help it confront the burden of Syrian refugees.

In the past three years, Germany granted 850 million euros to the countries hosting the refugees, with 250 million euros to Lebanon alone, Mueller said following talks with Prime Minister Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail.

Kuwait: OPEC has no Option but to Keep Output Ceiling

OPEC members have no choice but to maintain current production levels despite falling oil prices in order to preserve their market share, Kuwait's oil minister said on Thursday.

Derbas: Lebanon to Ask for $2.1 Billion in Aid at Kuwait Conference

Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas has said that Lebanon will ask the international community for 2.1 billion dollars in assistance at the Kuwait donors conference this month.

Derbas, who on Wednesday attended a ministerial meeting for the refugee crisis cell under Prime Minister Tammam Salam, told al-Liwaa newspaper that Lebanon aims to urge the assistance to help it resolve problems linked to the displaced Syrians on the course of two years.

Kuwait has arrested the leader of the Islamist Ummah Party for allegedly insulting the neighboring Gulf state of Saudi Arabia on television, the interior ministry said.

Report: U.S. to Pledge Huge Financial Aid for Lebanon during Donor Conference

U.S. Ambassador David Hale has reportedly informed Lebanese officials that Washington will announce a huge financial aid for the Lebanese government during a donors conference in Kuwait.

Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas told al-Liwaa newspaper published on Wednesday that Hale discussed with him the March 31 conference. He did not give more details.
