President Michel Suleiman stressed on Sunday that he rejects attempts by any country to impose its stance concerning the upcoming parliamentary election, noting that the capacities of the Lebanese army should be fortified.

“It should be clear. No Lebanese president would accept being directed by any country concerning the electoral law,” Suleiman said at a meeting with the Lebanese community in Ghana during an official visit.

President Michel Suleiman headed on Tuesday to Africa on an 8-day tour at the head of a delegation, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The President will hold talks with senior African officials in Senegal, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria in addition to the Lebanese community in those countries.

Ghana's John Dramani Mahama was sworn-in as president on Monday at a ceremony attended by thousands in the capital, but boycotted by the opposition, which has challenged the election results.

Mahama, who initially became head of state following the death of his predecessor John Atta Mills in July, swore to uphold the west African nation's constitution at the ceremony in Accra's Black Star Square following last month's elections.

Ghana's main opposition party on Sunday alleged fraud in the country's tight presidential election, claiming it had evidence that its candidate had won the vote even before official results were declared.

The opposition's claims came as partial official results showed the race almost neck-and-neck, while local media gave incumbent John Dramani Mahama a slight edge based on provisional results from nearly all districts.

Ghana opened polling stations for a second day on Saturday in those areas where technical glitches led to delays, forcing an extension of the west African country's general election.

Electoral officials ordered voting to take place for a second day after problems with a new biometric identification system and late delivery of materials forced long delays in some polling stations during Friday's presidential and parliamentary vote.

Rescuers at the site of a collapsed mall in Ghana on Saturday said they had identified six more bodies under the rubble, as an Israeli team providing technical support pulled out.

"The Israelis, after providing technical support and help in the rescue process are due to leave tonight (Saturday). So far 12 people have been confirmed dead," police spokesman Freeman Tettey told Agence France Presse.

A cargo plane crash-landed on Saturday near the airport in Ghana's capital Accra after overshooting the runway and hit a bus on the ground, killing at least 10 people, but the crew survived, officials said.

Wreckage from the Boeing 727 Allied Air plane could be seen in an area near the airport along with a badly damaged bus. Rescue, police and fire officers flooded the scene and cordoned off the immediate area of the crash.
