Report: German Police Arrest Lebanese, Syrian for Spying for Damascus

German police arrested two men in Berlin Tuesday accused of spying on opponents of the Syrian regime in raids involving some 70 officers, federal prosecutors said.

The suspects were identified only as 47-year-old German-Lebanese citizen Mahmoud El A. and 34-year-old Syrian national Akram O., the federal prosecutor's office said in a statement.

2 Germans Jailed in Britain for Possessing Qaida Articles

Two German men were jailed in Britain on Monday after pleading guilty to possessing articles from an al-Qaida magazine.

Police seized a hard drive and laptop from Christian Emde, 28, and Robert Baum, 24, both from Solingen in western Germany, when they arrived in the southern English port of Dover on July 15 last year.

Sarkozy: Paris, Berlin Won't Accept Blocking of Syria Action

France and Germany will not accept the "blocking" of international action on Syria, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Monday, after Russia and China vetoed a U.N. resolution on the crisis.

After a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Sarkozy also said he would call Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on behalf of France and Germany later Monday to discuss the international community's response to the crisis.

Apple Inc. has temporarily blocked Motorola Mobility's attempt to have it withdraw several iPhone and iPad models from its Internet store in Germany, the latest twist in an extended legal duel over patents between the companies.

The sale of the devices was briefly halted after Libertyville, Ill.-based Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. enforced a ruling it won against Ireland-based Apple Sales International Inc., from a court in Mannheim, Germany.
