5,000 EU Nationals Join Jihadists as French PM Says 'Not at War against Islam'

Prime Minister Manuel Valls told members of parliament Tuesday that France was at "war with terrorism, jihadism and radicalism," in the wake of the country's bloodiest attacks in half a century.

"France is not at war against Islam and Muslims," stressed Valls, after three gunmen claiming to represent extremist jihadist groups killed 17 people in three days that terrorized the country.

Far-Right Leader Says EU Weakened France against Terror

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen accused the EU on Tuesday of weakening France's defenses against terror, saying in the wake of the Paris attacks that the country could no longer control its own borders.

"The EU has weakened us" in the face of "Islamic fundamentalism", Le Pen told the European Parliament in Strasbourg during a debate on last week's Islamist attacks by three French nationals in which 17 people were killed.

Yemen not 'Exporter of Terror' Says President

Yemen's president said Tuesday his country was a victim not an exporter of "terrorism" after it emerged one of the Paris gunmen received training from al-Qaida in the violence-torn country.

Said Kouachi, one of the two brothers behind the attack on French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, traveled to Yemen in 2011 and received weapons and training from al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), security sources said.

EU Anti-Terror Chief Says New Attacks Can't be Prevented

The EU's counter-terrorism chief said Tuesday it is impossible to completely prevent new Islamist attacks like those in Paris, and warned that Europe's prisons have become a "massive incubator" for radicalization.

Russia Wants Official Response from France over Warship Delay

Russia has demanded an official explanation from France over its failure to deliver a Mistral-class warship due to concerns about Moscow's role in Ukraine, a military source said Tuesday.
