Eurozone inflation falls to three-year low in August

The eurozone's annual rate of inflation fell to its lowest level in more than three years this month thanks to falling energy costs, official data showed on Friday.

Consumer prices slowed to 2.2 percent in August from 2.6 percent in July this year. The rate was the lowest since July 2021 and in line with expectations by analysts surveyed by FactSet and Bloomberg.

German inflation falls below 2% for first time since 2021

German inflation slowed to its lowest level in more than three years in August, official data showed Thursday, strengthening the case for another interest rate cut by the European Central Bank next month.

The annual inflation rate in Europe's biggest economy eased more than expected to 1.9 percent, preliminary data from federal statistics agency Destatis showed, down from 2.3 percent in July.

French prosecutors to charge or release Telegram CEO as custody order expires

French prosecutors are expected to charge or release the CEO of the popular messaging app Telegram, Pavel Durov, after his police custody order expires on Wednesday.

Durov was detained Saturday at Le Bourget airport outside Paris as part of a judicial inquiry opened last month involving 12 alleged criminal violations. They include allegations that his platform is being used for selling child sexual abuse material and drug trafficking, fraud, abetting organized crime transactions and Telegram's refusal to share information or documents with investigators when required by law.
