A Belgian judge on Friday charged an 11th person with terrorism-related offenses over the deadly Paris attacks, two days after the suspect was arrested in a raid in Brussels.

The man identified as Zakaria J "has been charged with terrorist murders and participation in the activities of a terrorist group", the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

Battling terror on two fronts, Belgian police were holding eight people Thursday over an alleged New Year plot in Brussels and also arrested a tenth suspect over last month's massacre in Paris.

Both Brussels and Paris have canceled annual New Year's Eve fireworks displays as soldiers and police ramped up security in European capitals over perceived terror threats.

Belgium is probing whether a motorcycle gang was involved in an alleged plot to launch attacks in Brussels during New Year's festivities, a source close to the probe told AFP Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors announced Tuesday that the authorities had arrested two people suspected of plotting to attack "emblematic sites" in the Belgian capital following raids in the areas of Brussels and Liege.

Belgian police have arrested two people suspected of plotting attacks in Brussels during New Year festivities, just weeks after the jihadist bombings and shootings in Paris which were allegedly planned in Belgium.

The federal prosecutor's office in Brussels, the home of the European Union and NATO, said Tuesday that police seized military-style training uniforms, computer hardware and Islamic State propaganda material in raids around the capital Brussels and in the Liege region.

The Belgian authorities have charged a ninth person in connection with last month's deadly Paris attacks, the prosecutor's office said Thursday.

A spokesman said the suspect had telephoned Hasna Aitboulachen, the cousin of ringleader Abdelhamid Abaaoud, several times after the November 13 attacks and before a police raid five days later in which they both died.

Belgian police have arrested a total of five people including two brothers during a series of arrests in connection with last month's Paris attacks, prosecutors said Monday.

Police arrested the two brothers and a third person in a raid on a house near the main tourist district in central Brussels on Sunday, the federal prosecutors office said in a statement.

Belgium on Friday said it was searching for two new "armed and dangerous" men who used false ID papers to help wanted Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam travel to Hungary in September.

The fake identity card of one of the suspects was also used to wire money from Brussels to Paris and the cousin of attacks ringleader Abdelhamid Abaaoud four days after the massacre in the French capital, the Belgian prosecutor's office said.

Belgium has charged two new suspects in connection with the Paris massacre last month, prosecutors said Thursday, bringing to eight the number of people it is holding in the case.

"Two other suspects have been charged... in the framework of the Paris attacks," a spokesman for the prosecutor's office told AFP, confirming reports that the two had been arrested on Sunday.

Belgian police on Wednesday held two people for questioning in connection with the Paris attacks, after carrying out a series of searches in their hunt for key suspects with links to the November 13 massacre.

"This morning five premises were searched in the Brussels region, concerning the ongoing federal investigation into the fugitive Mohamed Abrini and into Ahmed Dahmani who is currently detained in Turkey," the federal prosecutor said in a statement.

France and Belgium want to improve intelligence sharing between the nine European nations most concerned with jihadist threats in the wake of the Paris attacks, a French government source said Monday evening.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls and his Belgian counterpart Charles Michel agreed to "launch an initiative" when they met at the U.N. climate summit in Paris on Monday, a source in the French premier's entourage said.
