Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi on Friday returned to the Lebanese foreign ministry four legal notices that had been sent by Damascus to the Lebanese authorities.

According to Rifi's office, the notices were not sent to “MP Walid Jumblat, journalist Fares Khashan and two other citizens given the illegal nature of the writs.”

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi expressed hope on Friday that the political arch-foes would bridge the gap and agree on surpassing the difficult stage that the country is passing through.

“We have to confront the enormous challenges,” Rifi said in comments published in al-Liwaa newspaper.

Lebanese authorities are carrying out the necessary measures to deport a detained Saudi national based on an official request by Saudi Arabia to try him over several charges in his home country.

Sources said in comments published on Monday in the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat that the competent Lebanese authorities are wrapping up judicial, diplomatic and security documents that are necessary to hand over Saudi national Abdullah Ahmed Mohammed al-Bishi to Saudi authorities.

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi appointed on Tuesday a new judicial investigator into the disappearance of revered spiritual leader Imam Moussa al-Sadr.

"In response to his request, Judge Samih al-Hajj has been exempted from looking into the case as an investigator at the Judicial Council,” Rifi announced in a released statement.

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi on Monday referred to the Judicial Council the cases of twelve deadly bombings that rocked different regions in Lebanon in the past months.

Rifi announced in a released statement that he has appointed judicial investigators at the Judicial Council to probe the “terrorist explosions.”

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi confirmed on Saturday that his commitment to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon's request in the case of Al-Jadeed TV's Karma al-Khayat and al-Akhbar daily's Ibrahim al-Amin was not discussed at the cabinet session, stressing that he has no choice but to implement the law.

The Minister told al-Liwaa daily that his commitment to the STL's request was not “discussed during Friday's cabinet session nor was it brought up by any of the ministers.”

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi stated on Tuesday that the adventures of those who “violated the state's dignity” on May 7, 2008 will fire back at them, vowing to continue “resisting this destructive path.”

Rifi commented on the infamous May 7 events on the eve of their sixth anniversary in a released statement, describing the day as one of the darkest in Lebanon's modern history.

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi confirmed Sunday that Arab Democratic Party leader Rifaat Eid left the country as an unprecedented security plan got underway in Tripoli, reassuring that the northern city will not witness any new round of sectarian violence.

“From now on, there won't be any new round of violence in Tripoli and (former) Prime Minister Saad Hariri is seriously thinking of turning Syria Street into a … piece of art, similar to what martyr premier Rafik Hariri did in Beirut,” Rifi said.

Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi called on Hizbullah on Saturday to reevaluate its decisions and "return to the Lebanese state."

"We must benefit from the new regional and international developments to get our country out of the Syria war,” Rifi stressed in an interview with MTV.

The military institution announced on Wednesday arresting 33 people in the northern city of Tripoli, as troops continued to implement the security plan in the North.

"The army has arrested 33 people, including 14 Syrians,” the military institution said in an evening communique.
