Raad Says Miqati Disassociated Himself from 'Upcoming Hurricanes': Resignation Caused Political, Security Vacuum
Head of Hizbullah's Loyalty to Resistance bloc MP Mohammed Raad stated on Sunday that Prime Minister Najib Miqati's resignation has caused “a huge vacuum in the country”, remarking that the premier has “disassociated himself from anticipated political hurricanes.”
Raad said at the one week commemoration of the death Hizbullah member Nimr Shartouni who was killed in Syria that the resignation “is not a matter of extending a public employee's term”: “The premier might have felt that he has abused all his potentials to safeguard stability in the country.”
"He sensed that tough times are ahead and preferred to disassociate himself,” he expressed.
"He is the one behind the disassociation theory.”
Raad revealed that the resignation “was not surprising”: “Since the formation of the cabinet, we knew it will only last until the elections.”
"Miqati who wanted to avoid vacuum in an institution has caused through his resignation a political and security vacuum in the country,” he said.
Miqati announced the resignation of his government on Friday, citing divisions on several domestic issues, and called for the formation of a national unity government.
The resignation came after the cabinet's session failed to approve the decisions to form of an authority to oversee the parliamentary elections and extend the term of Internal Security Forces chief Ashraf Rifi.
The Loyalty to Resistance MP said that “the Lebanese must be convinced that they are not able to overcome the events shaking the region unless they agree on some principles that protect their country.”
"On top of these principles is the resistance-army-people equation,” he stressed.
"Everyone who does not support this equation is not serving stability in Lebanon.”
Raad remarked: “We are open to forming a cabinet that provides stability based on this principle.”
