Aoun rejects wars, says only diplomatic negotiations can achieve sustainable peace
President Joseph Aoun called on Wednesday for dialogue and moderation to resolve the country's crises and said only diplomatic negotiations can achieve sustainable peace.
"Lebanon's problems cannot be solved except by adopting the language of moderation and dialogue, away from confrontation," Aoun said, before stating later in the day that "there are no safe or sustainable solutions through war."
"There are no safe or sustainable solutions through war, but rather through diplomatic negotiations, because wars cannot achieve any practical results — they only destroy, displace, and leave behind dead and wounded, without ending conflicts. Diplomatic negotiation alone can achieve safety for nations and peoples."
