Report: Hezbollah 'has not given guarantees' it won't intervene in war

It is “not true” that Hezbollah gave guarantees that it would not enter the war if a confrontation broke out between Iran and the United States and Israel, a senior Hezbollah official has been quoted as saying.

"We have not given, and will not give, guarantees to anyone in this regard, because the decision of whether or not to enter the war is linked to what happens on the battlefield and what the Israeli enemy might do. Therefore, there is no benefit in confirming or denying this matter," al-Liwaa newspaper quoted the official as saying in remarks published Monday.

"As for those who demand that we definitively declare our stance and pledge in advance not to enter the war, they must ask the Israeli enemy about its threats," he added. "This position of ours does not contradict with our concern for Lebanon and for preventing any escalation," he noted.

Moreover, al-Liwaa reported, citing “credible information,” that visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh “did not mention in any way” the leaks suggesting Iran has asked Hezbollah not to intervene.

“Rather, he accurately affirmed his country's readiness to face threats and aggression alone, without going into any further details,” al-Liwaa added.
