Army dismisses 'disinformation campaigns'
The Lebanese Army noted Wednesday that “recently, claims attributed to hostile Israeli media outlets have emerged regarding the army’s positions and missions in the south, as well as other fabricated news.”
In a statement, the army affirmed that “the institution’s personnel are committed to its directives and the missions entrusted to them,” and that “they perform their duties out of their belief in their national responsibility to defend Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and stability, away from any other calculations or considerations.”
The military emphasized that “it enjoys the trust of brotherly and friendly nations, which continue to support the army, believing in the importance of its role, especially in light of the exceptional circumstances and challenges facing Lebanon.”
It noted that "the timing of launching and spreading these rumors, at such a delicate and sensitive stage, reveals the seriousness of attempts to target the army and its leadership, sow doubt within the institution, and undermine trust between it and the Lebanese people."
The army also stressed that "disinformation campaigns, regardless of who is behind them, will not affect the cohesion of the military institution or its ability to perform its duties, nor will they deter it from continuing to carry out its missions to preserve Lebanon's security and stability."
Moreover, the military called on all parties to "shoulder their national responsibilities, refrain from being drawn into rumors or contributing to their spread, and refer to official army sources regarding the military institution and its leadership."
