President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday stressed that wars lead to no positive outcome and only bring “destruction to countries and poverty to their people.”
"Hence our emphasis on the necessity of adopting diplomacy. Wars end in only two ways: either both sides realize their inability to end the conflict and sit down to negotiate, or one side prevails over the other," Aoun said.
He added: "The path is not easy and is fraught with difficulties, but it is not impossible. We must exert the necessary efforts, having witnessed the consequences of wars and the mistakes made by some after the year 2000."
He concluded by emphasizing that “the Lebanese do not need aid to revive their country, but rather all they ask for is political and security stability.”
“This was revealed by the figures last year, as it (Lebanon) recorded economic growth of 4% and a budget surplus of around 1.3 billion dollars, in addition to an increase in the central bank's foreign currency reserves by 2 billion dollars,” the president pointed out.
