Berri hails stances of Christian border towns after Netanyahu claim

Speaker Nabih Berri on Monday praised the statements issued by the heads of municipal councils and religious leaders in southern border villages and towns, particularly the Christian ones in the districts of Marjeyoun and Bint Jbeil.

He specifically mentioned the statement issued by the municipality of Rmeish, which "rejected, denied, and refuted the false claims made by the Israeli Prime Minister regarding the desire of the residents of these villages to be annexed to the occupying Israeli entity."

Berri emphasized that "the positions of the residents and leaders of these villages, their steadfastness, and their adherence to their land and identity reflect the authenticity of their genuine national belonging, which they will not compromise under any circumstances."

He warned against falling for “the lies and falsehoods promoted by Israeli political circles,” which he said are driven by “seditious agendas aimed at sowing discord among the residents of the border regions.”

He stressed that their shared concern, their wounds, their hopes, and their pain have always been, and will remain, one: ending the war, liberating their land, returning to it, and rebuilding what Israeli aggression has destroyed and continues to destroy daily.”

On another note, Berri stressed "the need for the Lebanese state and the Arab and international communities to take action to stop the systematic destruction and demolition of villages that is proceeding at full speed in the city of Bint Jbeil and the villages of its district, and in the districts of Marjeyoun, Nabatieh and Tyre, which, if it indicates anything, indicates the true intentions of the Israeli enemy to make large areas of southern Lebanon uninhabitable, and this is something that can no longer be met with silence as is happening today."
