Controversial loss as Lebanese star Abdallah Ondash puts on a show against experienced Thai fighter
Lebanese Muay Thai star Abdallah Ondash suffered a controversial defeat at the hands of a Thai fighter 10 years his senior and with 102 wins to his name in front of the latter’s home crowd in Bangkok, Thailand at ONE Championship’s ONE Friday Fights 70 event.
Ondash, who had previously won all four of his fights at the weekly fight series, put in another impressive performance at the iconic Lumpinee Stadium against Chokpreecha PK Saenchai.
The first round was close with both fighters trading punches and the Thai fighter focused on stopping Ondash’s forward momentum with low kicks to his left leg.
In the midpart of the first round, Ondash’s attacks found home as he used his boxing skills, connecting with several hooks and uppercuts, and worked on targeting his Thai counterpart with shots to the body.
The quick pace continued in the second round. The Lebanese fighter threw some high kicks and impressive sweeps, dropping his opponent to the canvas while Chokpreecha landed a strong left hook and focused again on targeting Ondash’s left leg with kicks.
Ondash tried to salvage the bout in the third and final round, pushing forward from the moment the bell rang. The Lebanese applied relentless attacking pressure that slowed down his visibly tired opponent and connected with a powerful left hook that wobbled Chokpreecha.
However, with two of the three judges believing Chokpreecha did enough, Ondash suffered his first loss at ONE Championship’s ONE Friday Fights series via majority decision.
This was the Lebanese star’s first fight in the Strawweight division (52.1 Kg – 56.7 Kg) after he had picked up his four wins in the Flyweight division (56.7 Kg - 61.2 Kg).
With this close decision loss, the 22-year-old Lebanese fighter’s record in the martial arts organization drops to 4-1 while his overall record falls to 20-2.
