Ethiopia's Fikadu Girma Wins 2014 Beirut International Marathon

Ethiopian athlete Fikadu Girma won on Sunday the 2014 Banque du Liban Beirut international marathon.

He won the 42.195 kilometer race in 2:12.28.

Omar Issa was the first Lebanese to finish the race.

Kenya's Monica Jepkoech came in first in the women's 42-km race, while Cherine Njeim was first among the Lebanese athletes.

The 12th edition of the marathon kicked off on Sunday morning with a record number of 37,153 registered runners from over 94 countries taking part in the event, which is divided into several categories of races.

The main event is dedicated to elite athletes and covers a distance of 42.195 kilometers.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia was invited by the Beirut Marathon Association as a special guest at the event.

This year's marathon was held under the slogan of "love, peace, run."
