Lebanon Files Complaint over Israeli Attack on Military Post

Lebanon filed a complaint with the U.N. Security Council on Thursday over an Israeli army attack on a Lebanese military post west of the Shebaa Farms area earlier this month.

The state-run National News Agency said the complaint was made by Lebanon's mission in New York.

The Lebanese army said on October 5 that a soldier was lightly wounded after Israeli troops opened fire on the military outpost in Jabal Sadanneh, west of the Shebaa Farms.

The Shebaa Farms area is a disputed zone along the frontier between Lebanon and Israel.

The Israeli military offered a different account, saying that its troops opened fire at a number of suspects who crossed into Israeli-controlled territory from Lebanon.

It said the suspects fled back into Lebanon after the shooting.

The Israeli army described the suspects as a "squad," but wouldn't say whether they were Lebanese troops or Hizbullah fighters.

Lebanon and Israel have been in a state of war for six decades.

Despite sporadic outbursts of violence, the border area has remained mostly quiet since the 2006 war between the Jewish state and Hizbullah.
